The popularity of streaming TV services has exploded in the past few years. At first, they were really just something extra to go along with cable. You could get movies and even old shows on demand, which was great.
But there weren’t a lot of options, if any, when it came to live television. Especially things like local, news, and sports.
But that’s all changed. Many streaming TV services offer just about everything cable offers and at less the cost. And the biggest draw is the fact that, for the most part, you can get the channels you want and not have to pay for a bunch of channels you never watch, the way you do with cable.
Cable television has been bleeding subscribers in a big way the last few years and streaming TV is the reason why.
One of the big players in streaming TV now is You Tube. They were later to the game than competitions like Hulu, Amazon Prime and others but You Tube offering a streaming service makes perfect sense.
After all, was there anyone better positioned to jump into the streaming game? You Tube is a video site that is the second most popular site in the world, trailing only Google. When people think online video, they think You Tube. Who better to jump into streaming TV?
You Tube allows you to watch their streaming service on a variety of devices, including computers, tablets and smartphones. Three different devices can stream at once and there cloud based DVR that allows you to watch shows you record up to nine months later.
But what about the available YouTube TV channels? Sure, You Tube is great for watching cat videos, movie trailers and the like, but do they offer enough to get you to pay them for a streaming service?
Let’s take a look.
First, You Tube’s streaming service nails it with the local broadcast channels. You’ll get the full load with ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW. This means all your favorite network channels will be available to watch. Take that, cable!
But what about sports? That’s always been one that has kept many a sports fan from giving up their cable package for a streaming service. But the You Tube TV channels for sports are pretty good, too.
You get the big channels like ESPN, as well ESPN2, ESPNNews, and even the ESPN SEC Network and ESPNU.
But that’s far from everything when it comes to the YouTube TV channels that are available. Many of the major sports channel players are here including Fox Sports Network, both 1 and 2, as well as the CBS Sports Network. The NBA and MLB channels are available as well. Even the Olympic channel is among the You Tube TV channels.
You’ll also get the Big Ten channel, the Golf channel and even the Tennis channel.
News channels
What about YouTube TV channels that give you live news? You’re covered here as well. Fox, both the news channel and the business channel are available. There is also CNN and MSNBC. If those aren’t enough for you, there is also BBC News, and CNBC as well, not to mention some other smaller news channels like HLN.
Entertainment and Movie Channels
You Tube TV provides over twenty entertainment channels, including all the major ones like TNT, TBS, FX, SyFy, USA, there own You Tube Red with original programming, and many others.
Even with all those entertainment channels included, You Tube TV throws in a couple of movie channels as well, FXM and Turner Classic Movies.
If you have younger kids, that’s covered, too. There is the Disney Channel as well as Disney Junior and of course Cartoon Network. They also throw in Universal Kids and Disney XD.
If Spanish language is your thing they have Telemundo and NBC Universo.
Finally, educational programming is available as well with National Geographic, Nat Geo and the Smithsonian channel.
These are all part of the basic You Tube TV package. They offer some premium add-ons as well if you want to spend the money.
When you read this, YouTube TV channels may include even more in their basic package. We’ll update this page whenever that happens.
